Web Apps
Tumbltape
Tumbltape turns audio posts from any Tumblr blog with audio files into a playlist. The tumbltape playlist gets updated automatically as and when you add new songs in your blog. Tumbltape easily figures out the artist and track name from the text in your audio post.

Psolenoid
Psolenoid is an easy-to-use app to link your Tumblr posts to related posts from other blogs. It enables reciprocal link exchange between the Tumblr post and a relevant post from a different blog, bringing in a new set of readers to your tumblog.

tarpipe
tarpipe is an amazing web app that helps you automate publishing and sharing of your tumblogs (and other blog posts) by using workflows triggered by emails, IM’s and other apps. Using tarpipe, you can post your tumblog simultaneously to 22 other social networks & blogging platforms.
Downside: Though the app is amazing, it is not for newbies.

Postling is a full featured web app that allows you to publish across multiple platforms in a single click. The WYSIWYG editor has more formatting options than the standard Tumblr editor. Just compose an article , select the services including your tumblog and voila! the post is up everywhere instantly.

Blip.fm
Blip.fm helps you to add heartful content of music to your tumblog. Since tumblr restricts music uploads to one mp3 file a day, you can Blip.fm to create playlists and publish in your tumblog.

You can pull comprehensive statistics about your tumblog using TumblrStats. The site is extremely minimalistic, but is very useful by providing stats on the number of posts, frequency and type of posts, time since last post etc. in a neatly designed page.

AlertThingy
AlertThingy is a well known Adobe AIR app for desktops. This app lets you post to your tumblog from the comfort of the desktop.
Select Tumblr from the list of social networks and enter the login credentials to authorize AlertThingy to access your tumblog.

Once authorized, you can post to your tumblog right from the desktop. Multiple tumblogs can be managed from the AlertThingy app.

Posty is a simplistic AIR app that handles tumblr among other social networks.
Downside: The app is way too simplistic. Posting options like text, audio, photo are not available.

Tumbleweed
Tumbleweed is a dedicated AIR app that handles only tumblr accounts. The app allows you to post directly to all of the categories available on Tumblr.
The category of each type of post – text, quotes, chat, photos, links,audio and video – are represented by beautiful icons of their first letter. The app supports posting multiple items at the same time.

Tumbleeze
Tumbleeze is one hell of an AIR app. The app is minimalistic, gorgeous yet full featured. Floating icons without boxes and borders is a great design idea.

Browser Add-ons
Zemanta
Zemanta is like Psolenoid in steroids. It enhances Tumblr’s otherwise bland WYSIWYG editor with on the fly content suggestions – images, links, articles, tags etc. – relevant to the current text in a single click.

TumblrHelper
TumblrHelper adds a number of useful AJAX features like creating post templates, adding a signature, saving common settings like fields, tags, always add to queue, etc. for your new tumblog posts.One dynamite feature is the addition of notes on commenters, for example you can add notes as to which commenter is complimenting you and which one is posting negative comments all the time.

Tumblr Post is a great Firefox add on that lets you post quotes, photos, videos and audio with a single drag and drop to your Tumblr icon on the statusbar.
