Make Journaling a Breeze With Loccit

I have always been jealous of others that are able to be disciplined enough to keep a journal and be consistent with it. I have tried so many different times to start one, only to stop in a week or two. I tried a variety of ways to make this happen, including pen and paper,  typing, using cool apps to do it, but nothing seems to work for me. I struggle with this because, I feel like I am at a point in my life where I want to be more reflective as there are some very significant things happening right now and I want to be able to look back on them and see what my thoughts were.

A few weeks ago, I came across a web app called Loccit, that takes a different approach on journaling. When I watched their video on how it works, I started to realize that they may be on to something. Their whole premise is to take the apps that you use on an every day basis to share what is going on in your life and bundle them into one to create your own journal. Now, there are other similar services out there that do this, but this one just seemed like it was interesting to try.

Creating Your Diary

The first thing you need to do after you sign up to use Loccit, is to connect as many social networking services as you desire and you will see why in a second. You can connect to most of the major networks out there, like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Foursquare and Flickr. My opinion is if you want to get the most out of the experience, connect to all the ones that you use the most.

Adding your social networks

Adding your social networks

Once you are done pulling in all of your social networks, then it is time to start making your journal your own. The whole point of Loccit is to make journal entries easy for you, and their idea is that the easiest way is to pull from your social feeds to make this happen. So, you can literally do nothing after you have connected all of your social networks because Loccit will take all of the things that you post and put it in your journal for you. For the ultra lazy, this is really a nice option to have as you don’t have to do any work after the initial set up.

Using just your social network posts in your journal

For those of you that want a little more control and actually want to contribute to your journal, you have that option as well. You have the can write your own entry to add to your story and you can post photos as well as send it out to your social networks. The nice part is that you can create chapters within your journal and entries to them as well.

The last option to adding content to your diary is actually an interesting one. You can go back into all of your social networks that you connected to Loccit and you can select posts from other people to add to your journal. For example, if there is a tweet that someone else posted that you want to add, you can click on “+” button and it will add it to your journal. You can also add your words as to why you decided to add it to your journal or just your thoughts on it. This is a great option for those of you that want to create a chapter in your journal around an event or something similar.

Getting That Journal on Paper and Much More

This is where Loccit is going to make their money, which I don’t blame them for wanting to do this. A lot of times, people want their journal in the physical form and not necessarily always online. Loccit has a store where you can actually purchase your journal in a physical book for around $30. That is actually kind of a cool option for people who want this. But, this store is so much more than just printing your diary, you can create cards, notebooks, calendars, mugs, etc, with your pictures. I don’t know if I like all of the other stuff that you can design and buy, as to me it takes away from the fact that you can purchase your journal. I get that they want to make money, but I think they should stick to the focus of printing just the journals.

Overall Thoughts

I definitely like the concept behind Loccit and how easy it is to create yourself an online journal by using your social networks. It is very easy to use and I like that you have a variety of options for getting content into your journal. There are a few things that bugged me about the app as well though. I thought the design of the web app could be improved upon and it was really slow at times. I also thought they should focus their store more on the journal aspect and not on all the other stuff, in my opinion, it just made them look a little more tacky.

All that to say, this was one journal app that I could see myself using. I am the type of guy that doesn’t like to spend a lot of time writing in a journal, but I still want to capture the moments of my life. This gives me that opportunity and the nice part is that I can go back into it at any time and add my thoughts where I see fit. Now, I don’t have to worry if I am going to miss adding something because usually when I am chronicling something important in my life it is on one of my social networks and if not, I can always manually add it to Loccit. Go and check it out for yourself and if you have always wanted to journal, but never knew where to start, this is a great way to get the ball rolling.

Summary

Create an online journal in minutes by connecting your social networks and adding your own thoughts with Loccit.
