Blinksale: <br />A Revamped Butt Kicking Invoice App

Early this year we reviewed the wonderfully easy invoicing app Blinksale and, while it was certainly a fantastic web app for invoicing, we found it lacking in a few areas. The Blinksale team has been busy at work making their app even better.

Let’s take a look at what the Blinksale team has changed and improved and why this is an app you should really consider trying.

Rather than try to do a completely new review of Blinksale, I’ll try to cover the changes and improvements they’ve made. If you’d like to see a little more in-depth look at this great app, take a look at our prior review as well.

Improvements

For starters, Blinksale’s site design has had a fresh facelift and while I didn’t have a problem with their prior design, the new facelift feels much more professional and refined.

Of course they didn’t stop with a home page design refresh, they also revamped the whole web app design. They kept the original concept for the most part, but the app now has a much prettier interface. It’s both sexy and professional.

Also, once signed up, the welcoming page is much more user friendly and helpful than before.

Signup & Pricing

The signup process, while not having changed in function or concept, feels easier and more user friendly thanks to the design facelift. The pricing grid looks significantly better as well. In addition to the significantly better design, they’ve added a Platinum price plan that offers unlimited invoices per month.

In addition to the new price plan option, PDF invoices are now included in all paid plans. This was a feature we felt should’ve been included during our first review so we’re very happy to see it available now. Another fantastic feature they’ve added is estimates, which we’ll get into more a little later.

As before, Blinksale offers a full 30 day free trial of your desired price plan. There’s no payment info. required upon signup.

App Usability & Interface

While the concept and layout of the Blinksale app has, for the most part, remained the same, the design improvements really give Blinksale a much more enhanced and user friendly feel. The Blinksale logo has been moved from the header area and placed in the footer, and the primary navigation has been revamped to take advantage icons.

Creating Invoices

We covered the creation of invoices in our prior review of Blinksale but I definitely think it’s worth taking another look simply for the design enhancements. Visiting the Invoices page, we’ll get a helpful message box that explains what the page is for and what you can do there. This is the same as before, except everything looks better.

New Invoice

Overall, creating new invoices is almost exactly the same as before. The only real difference is the design enhancements, particularly the better use of color in buttons such as Cancel and Save Invoice. Once the invoice is saved, I noticed a feature I didn’t see in our last review; View Invoice as Client.

If this is a new feature, I’m very happy to see it as I like checking to see what my clients will see.

Creating Estimates

One of Blinksale’s new features is estimates, a much appreciated new feature. Creating estimates is pretty much the same process as creating a new invoice.

Send the estimate to your client for approval and, if approved, you’ll be able to convert the estimate to an invoice with a single click.

History & Comments

One of my favorite features is Blinksale’s history and comments. It’s quite a pain to go back and fourth via email when discussing an estimate or invoice with a client, then have to refer back to those emails sometime in the future and piece together the puzzle. With Blinksale, the entire history and conversation is easily recorded and available anytime you need to refer back to it.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Blinksale hasn’t had a significant number of newly implemented features, not that it needed many more in the first place. The big change here is the significant improvement in interface design that makes the app feel more navigable, professional and refined.

Of course with the addition of PDFs for all paid accounts and estimates, Blinksale now has a few of the components we felt were missing in order for it to reach its next maturity level. Blinksale says they’re “the easiest way to send invoices online” and, while some may argue with that, I think they’re certainly a leading app in ease of use and simplicity.

If you’re looking for a well built and easy to use invoicing web app, I’d encourage you to give Blinksale a try. After all, you have nothing to lose with a 30 day free trial. Also, stay tuned for a Blinksale giveaway later this week!

Summary

Blinksale provides quick and easy invoicing in a straight forward approach with a clean and intuitive user interface.
