Project Management

Are you tired of using a half-dozen different apps to manage your business in the cloud? Everyday it seems like there’s a new app released designed to help deal with a small aspect of your business, such as CRM or internal messaging, but with so many disparate apps it’s easy to forget what you’ve saved where. Plus, it can be expensive paying for so many different apps.

rule.fm aims at bringing some order to the confusion and make it easier to manage your business and, most importantly, get back to work. Its founders set out to bring style and simplicity to online project management and designed it to include all the tools you need to efficiently keep track of every part of your business. rule.fm already offers an impressive number of tools, with more planned to be added before its released from beta.

Today we’ll look at what rule.fm has to offer your business and see if it’s got what it takes to beat Basecamp and the thousands of other project management apps out there.

Do you get frustrated with rich webapps that take forever to load or require Flash to run? There are many drawing and charting webapps, but the majority are relatively slow and powered by Flash. Today we’ll look at the HTML5 powered app LucidChart, for creating rich charts, mockups and diagrams.

LucidChart is one of the many webapps that let you create charts and diagrams online, but it sets itself apart by using native web technology which makes it run faster than its Flash based competitors. It also lets you do more than just plain flow charts. You can use it to make mind-maps, mockups of the iPhone app you’re designing, or the standard org charts and diagrams usually made with Visio. Let’s see how you can put this to use to get charts and diagrams made for your projects.

When you’re working together with a team on a project, very quickly you’ll have bits and pieces of the project in a thousand different places. A task list in one app, documents saved on different computers and Google Docs accounts, various emails and IMs about the project elsewhere, and time tracking in yet another app. All of your digital tools are simply dragging the project down.

Teambox is a project management web app that aims to reduce this confusion and help you manage everything about your projects from one page. No matter how many projects you’re running or how many people are in your team, you can keep all of your data flowing together so you can access it quickly from your desktop or mobile browser. Let’s look at Teambox’s features and see if it’s the project management app your team needs to get organized again.

When you’re working on a project, there are a lot of options for tracking the progress of a project but one of the main problems is finding something to manage the smaller things. There was a day when we could all turn to our friend, pen and paper, but since we’re in the technological age, why not use something more reliable and online?

Speckle is a minimalistic app that provides a unique way of easily managing projects without the fuss of full-blown task management apps. See what I’m raving about inside the article.

Project management used to be rocket science dealt with only by the elite chosen ones of the project’s team. That was like, a decade ago, before the easy peasy desktop apps showed up and after the invasion of online project management apps. It is now possible even for a high school student to get things going.

Projecturf is one such online project management app that has a gamut of features like a Global Dashboard to see project activities, calendar events, tasks, timecards, tickets, code snippets, and bookmarks all in one place. Follow me after the fold for a review of Projecturf.

TaskAnt, complete with a neat interface and simplified methods, allows you to manage your tasks in a way that is neither confusing nor advanced, but it works very well. Find out more after the fold.

Running a business requires multiple software for handling multiple tasks. We have powerful web apps that can handle these tasks with gusto. But the real pain point is interoperability. How many apps allow you to pull contact information from your email address book to Projects or Billing and vice versa? Not many.

For small businesses, it is efficient and productive to stop wasting time trying to manage with multiple software and web tools. Instead, you can opt for an all in one solution that offers a decent set of features at a reasonable price point. Like WORKetc. Can it lift the entire weight of operating a small business all by itself? We will find it soon enough.

When I was in my old job, a PMP certified Project Manager told me that with proper planning a project can be executed in one third of the proposed time. That is true but we never did it anyway.

Finding the right tool for the entire team to be onboard was a huge task in itself. Desktop apps like Microsoft Project were cumbersome and needed a steep learning curve. Had we come across a project management app like Teamwork Project Manager, things would have been different.

Developed by Paste Interactive, Paprika is a different kind of project and task management app. Though we’ve reviewed many different task management apps, it’s always a pleasure to review one with a different approach on managing tasks and projects.

Paprika simplifies the process of note, task and project management by making the process of inputting information more natural. Rather than mess with buttons or menus, the app makes it easy to manage your tasks and notes via text based format. To get a better understanding of what this means, read on (with video preview).
