It seems that in today’s world, sharing things with people you know really is the name of the game. Over the past few months, apps and even whole operating systems have been changing to include those all important sharing features, and it seems like you can’t read an article nowadays without having to send it to someone you know.

Blogs are also a great way to share your thoughts with people out there on the Internet and previously unknown people have transformed themselves into big names on the Internet just via their writings and posts. Yet now there is a new approach to blogs, one that allows you to harness the power of social media on your own blog, or meeting fire with fire, and it comes by the name of OverBlog. It’s a European blog platform that has recently expanded into the US and boasts over 3 million active users with 34 million uniques, according to TechCrunch. Given the recent rise in popularity of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, with quick, short messages between users like those popularized by SMS messages, some believe that e-mail may be dying out. After all, it’s so much easier to type in a person’s name, write out whatever it is off your chest and hit “Send”. You don’t have to worry if the email address is correct or up-to-date, and you can be pretty much guaranteed that they will have seen it, even if you don’t get a reply straight away.

It’s pretty surprising to say, but even today, 12% of the American and 39% of the European population still don’t have access to the Internet, according to the latest penetration figures for 2011. As those users, and the kids growing up today, come online, it would seem that they’ll adopt to using social networks by default, skipping email entirely and hastening its demise. But I believe that e-mail certainly isn’t dying out – in fact it’s more popular than ever.

At the end of last month, we had a look at Fruux (under the tagline iCloud for Everyone) which is a great and easy way to keep your contacts and calendars in sync across all your devices no matter which platform you are running. fruux was awarded a very prestigious 9 out of 10 score here on Web.AppStorm and we loved its simplicity, range of features and its extremely low (i.e. free) price tag.

As a business owner, keeping track of your invoices and reminding customers when payment is due can be an extremely laborious and even embarrassing chore. However, it is a chore that needs to be done, because no payments means no cash coming into your business, which is not exactly ideal, to say the least.

Although most accounting programs will remind you when an invoice is due for payment, they don’t actually take care of the entire reminding and collections process. This is where ZenCash comes in. Not only will it integrate with your existing accounting program and synchronize all the data on outstanding invoices, but it also takes care of the collections process quickly and efficiently, so you won’t even have to lift a finger.

Pretty much ever since I’ve been using computers, spreadsheets have been one of the programs I have used the most. I started out back when I was 7 years old and learning how to do formulas in Excel ’95, and have continued using it all the way to my university work now, where I’m pretty much doing the same thing (though on a much more complicated level)! But that’s not suprising: spreadsheets were considered the original killer app for PCs back in the early days of personal computing.

The concept of spreadsheets has been around for a long time. Spreadsheets are a powerful way to display and manipulating data, and now even being applied to project management. Smartsheet is a way to collaborate on and manage your projects without that traditional Gantt chart layout. Instead, it turns your project into a spreadsheet. It’s definitely unique – as far as I know, no other project management app takes this kind of approach – so let’s take a look and see what Smartsheet has to offer.

We here at Web AppStorm love a good project management app and the one we’re going to be looking at today, activeCollab, is not just a project management resource but also a way to collaborate, work with clients and invoice, all in one great app. Yes, it’s another project management app and another invoicing app, but it happens to be a really nice one, one that’s definitely worth looking at, even if you think you’ve already seen all that project management and invoicing apps could offer.

Within a business, the necessity to be able to communicate with every single department within your company is pretty much vital, no matter whether it employes 50 people or 5,000 people. There are plenty of ways to do this (such as e-mail and telephone) but now, more companies are pushing towards an actual Internet platform, or intranets, as the medium for collaboration and sharing information.

There are plenty of sites out there on the net that will help you set up a company intranet (most require little technological knowledge as well). Today, let’s look at Igloo, which promises to be much more than a simple corporate intranet, but rather an entire digital workplace as a platform for all your ideas and a place to go to collaborate with your team, coordinate with your partners or even interact with your customers.

In today’s world of multiple devices and cloud computing, keeping all your gadgets in constant sync is just about the most important must. During the past couple of years, we have seen a whole range of services spring up to help you to keep your documents and contacts synced across all your devices. It started with Dropbox and other sync services, and now the larger technology companies such as Apple and Microsoft have caught onto the trend.

With platform developers making sync systems, your choice of sync service depends, naturally, on what devices you have. I am a Mac and iOS user, so I naturally use iCloud, as it integrates with iOS so well and works fairly effortlessly (most of the time, anyway). However, there aren’t many cloud services that have addressed the problem of multiple devices. iCloud will only work on iOS devices (you can run some aspects of iCloud off other devices, however the experience will be severly diminished), and even Google’s web services work best on Android devices (just check Android’s Gmail integration).

This was the idea behind Fruux which we’re going to take a look at now in this review. Think of it as Dropbox for your contacts, calendars and tasks, but one that works on a much wider range of devices. Let’s take a look now.
