resumeOne of the most important things to get the attention of the employer is your CV/resume. This is because when you apply for a job anywhere in the world, the first thing that the employer sees is your resume and based on that, they decide whether to call you for an interview or not. It should include everything about you, your strengths, education and work experience, awards and certifications you have and your skills.
It’s not just the skills and your education that catches attention. In order to attract the interest of your employer, you have to make sure that your resume is unique, simple and professionally designed. If you are looking for a simple yet easy way to design a professionally looking resume/CV, we have gathered a list of some handy online tools. Take a look. (more…)
One of the things that I tend to spend way too much time on when I apply for a job is my resume. It seems like there are so many different schools of thought when it comes to preparing one for yourself. I have been told before that you should stick to it being one page long, and then I recently learned in a school admin course that it doesn’t matter how long it is and the more pages the better. In fact the professor, who is a superintendent of a school district, showed us his and it was five pages long! Needless to say, I am in need of updating mine, and so I decided to take a gander to see what was out on the web for me to try.
As I started to look around for ways to create one, I wanted a simple and easy way to get my information down on paper and yet have it be professional enough that I could use it in a job application. When I got the opportunity to play around with CV Maker, it seemed to meet the simplicity and ease of use factor, but was it enough for me? Let’s take a look.
As a freelance writer, it seems like I’m always sending my resume out. Sometimes this causes some issues, usually with file compatability. I try to send a PDF, but this doesn’t always eradicate the problems and my resume isn’t always viewed the way it’s meant to be. Due to these issues, I’ve been searching for different ways to put my resume online. Simply hosting and displaying the PDF online is an obvious option, but I’ve also discovered a number of services which allow you to place your resume information online in unique ways.
Vizualize.me is one of these services, an app which allows you to produce an infographic style resume. You start by filling in the sections present in the app (things like education and skills), then choose a theme and save. It’s a simple and straightforward service with some fun customization options and pretty cool results. Stick with me after the jump to see the kind of things you can create with Visualize.me.
Managing employees and recruiting new ones to your company is a really important task for a lot of businesses and given this importance, it is often absolutely vital to have a strong system in place that can deal with the demands of human resource departments and managers wanting to recruit new employees.
Today, we’re going to have at a look at The Resumator which is a web-based app that helps you do just that. It is used by some pretty big names in the world of technology, including Pinterest, Hootsuite, Mashable and Atari and you can sign up for a risk-free 14 day trial directly from their website so you can sample its powerful features before you commit to buying. It almost seems that it’s more difficult to get a job than it is to do the job once you’ve been hired. One of the most frustrating things about trying to get a job is polishing your resume. You have to go through and think of all the jobs you’ve had, list any important details about your accomplishments and skills, then get it looking presentable. When you’re stressed over trying to find a job, that’s far from an easy task to undertake.
Resumonk is a new web app that helps you create the perfect resume, with the content you need laid out in a beautiful design. Resumonk takes over all formatting of your resume, allowing you to work on the content for your resume. Since you won’t have to worry about turning your info into a high-quality document, you can just devote all of your time and energy to making your resume the best it can be.
For the modern career seeker, having a visually compelling résumé is important. This importance is magnified for anyone with a career involving multimedia in any form. Whether you are a graphic designer, video editor, or writer, having a simple way to provide a resume and basic portfolio in one simple package is a great way to stand out from the crowd and catch the eye of potential employers. VisualCV is a new service that provides users with a free way to create a multimedia résumé so you can spend more time finding work than making your résumé.
VisualCV allows users to integrate standard resume sections such as employment history with non-traditional components such as video and document attachments. The service has partnered with a number of well-known businesses to allow users opportunities to share their new, dynamic resume with a variety of potential employers. Read on to learn more about the specific features and how it compares to other online résumé services.
As anyone who has hunted for a job before will know, applying for a job can be a long and frustrating process. After you’ve searched around for your ideal job and matched up your qualifications to their requirements, you then have to go about tailoring your resumé and cover letter to suit the position, filling out endless application forms and answering open-ended questions such as, “What would you bring to this company?” and “Give me an example where you have demonstrated leadership skills”. I’ve done it for countless internships and part-time jobs for students and I can tell you know, it isn’t fun.
But maybe, just maybe, there might be a tool to speed this monotonous process up? How does an online resumé sound? You may scoff at the idea at first but seeing as most job applications now are done through the Internet, the idea of an online resumé listing all your skills and qualifications doesn’t sound as ridiculous as you may think. Online resumés gives your (potential) future employer a far better picture of you as a person and allows you to tell your life story past your previous work experience, education and any professional qualifications.
re.vu does just this. Its tagline of “Don’t send a resumé. Share your story” seems particularly fitting for just this reason. What’s better is it gives you far greater flexibility as potential employers can interact with your resumé and find out a lot more about you than what is printed on a mere sheet of A4 paper. re.vu is free to sign up for so let’s take a look at it and see whether it will make those job applications that slightly less tedious and, we all hope of course, get you that position you were aiming for.
Face it: we all hate writing up a new résumé. Whether you’ve had 2.5 million different jobs or have stayed in the same position for the past 45 years, it’s somehow incredibly frustrating to put down your skills and experience on a piece of paper and get it looking halfway decent. Perhaps it’s because we’re shy to list what we’ve done, or we’re worried about what potential employers will think. Either way, writing a résumé ranks up there with filing taxes in the list of the world’s most hated jobs.
It doesn’t have to be that hard, though. Resume.io is a brand new web app that lets you create a nicely designed résumé in seconds. In fact, if you’ve already got a filled-out LinkedIn profile, you might be able to get a polished résumé without doing anything more than signing in. In today’s economy, it’s always good to have a current résumé, and now there’s a way to do it without wasting your afternoon.
Those who have searched for a job will know how tough it is to get the right one, if you can find one at all. You will have to be able to market yourself to the prospective employer, and customizing your skills and appealing to different corporate environments can be grueling at best. But even before you can get a face time with the bossman, there is a major hurdle you will have to get across – creating a resume.
Resumes get you a seat at the table, and are your first chance to make an impression on a potential employer (or at least their HR department). It isn’t a breeze to create a decent looking one, though, let alone an impressive one. There will always be a vital detail that has gone missing or hasn’t been highlighted prominently, and it’s so easy for your resume to look like just another plain vanilla piece of paper.
