I want to make this crystal clear: I love bookstores. I love going to them and checking out the bookshelves and the magazine racks, and finding some good things to read. I discovered a bunch of books and magazine because of bookstores, including the .net Magazine, the best web development magazine out there. That being said, I find more and more often that I go into bookstores and leave empty handed. Here’s why.

Let me start off by saying that even though I have a Kindle and read magazines on my tablet from time to time, sometimes there is just no substitute for a real, physical book. This is especially true of programming and web development books, which I tend to reference a lot so I prefer the physical copy to its digital counterpart. I also have a pretty nice bookshelf that would go to waste if I didn’t keep buying print books. So I truly enjoy going into bookstores in hopes of finding something new to read, whether it be a coding book, fiction, or a new magazine. But as I said in the intro, I tend to go into bookstores with the intention of buying a book, and end up leaving empty handed. The culprit for this is technology as a whole, specifically smart phones, the Internet, and e-readers.

Running a business requires a lot of skills. If your business is in the service vertical, the margins might be higher but certain special skills are required to ensure the smooth running of the business. A lot of human touch is involved in the services industry both on the customer and employee fronts. Failure to handle and balance both of them means lost opportunities and bad word of mouth.

When it comes to putting files in the cloud, the most important aspect for me is accessibility. Here in the AppStorm network, we’ve already covered CloudApp for Mac, and DroidCloud, a third party app that brings CloudApp to Android devices. I think it’s about time we cover the web interface for CloudApp, a dead simple way to put files in the cloud.

It’s true; a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s the reason there are so many screenshots in AppStorm articles AppStorm and across the Tuts+ network. To keep your audience engaged, your presentation has to be visually appealing. Once you grab the audience with a striking visual, you can connect with them on an emotional level.

These days I get questions from people who want to move from Microsoft PowerPoint just because it doesn’t do justice to the content on their slides. One of my recommendations to them is SlideRocket. Today SlideRocket has introduced a few new tools to its already well stacked visual arsenal.

We are living in the Information Age and today one of the most important things to most of us is our data. If our computers, tablets, phones, or other devices disappeared, or the webapps we depend on shut down tomorrow, the files we lose would be harder to replace than the things themselves. From pictures to music to the new web app you’ve been creating, we’re keeping more data than ever and all of it is stuff you want to access anytime, anywhere, without ever losing it.

The good news is there are many apps today to help keep your data synced and safe. Dropbox is one of the most popular file sync apps ever, but SpiderOak is another promising offering that helps ensure your data is safe and secure as well.

We’re going to take a deeper look at what both of these services offer and then hopefully you can decide if Dropbox, SpiderOak, or another service is the one you need to keep your data synced and safe.

The short answer, of course not. The industry is, however, fighting a needlessly difficult battle in which users pay the price—literally and figuratively. So the real question is, are we, the users, fighting a losing battle? Personally I think the short answer to that is, yes.

Black Friday is over and Cyber Monday is now drawing to an end—sort of. In typical fashion, retailers will do everything they can to get you to open up your purse or wallet and hand over every last cent. Cyber Monday, however, has really caught on becoming more of an extension to Black Friday than a gimmick.

Although the Cyber Monday isn’t quite over yet (in my time-zone), retailers are already reporting record online sales. Were you a cyber-shopper this Monday?
