I’d add Campaign Monitor and MailChimp in there for email marketing campaigns.

  • http://www.jayphilips.com Jay Philips

What an awesome collection. I’m going to have to take time to try a lot of these out.

  • http://www.brettatkin.com Brett Atkin

What a great list, so many apps I’ve never heard of. The only pick I take issue with is Breeze. Breeze is just a rebrand of Campaign Monitor. Campaign Monitor should have been the pick.

Thanks for the great list! Maybe you can add one more design tool named “ForeUI”, it is my favorite: http://www.ForeUI.com

  • http://visualwebsiteoptimizer.com/ Paras Chopra

I’m surprised you don’t have a single A/B testing tool included. For example, our app Visual Website Optimizer http://visualwebsiteoptimizer.com/ could have been included.

    Justin,
Thanks for including ProtoShare in your list of freelancing tools! For those unfamiliar with our app, you can create and collaborate on interactive wireframes for website and app development then evolve them into detailed prototypes and/or export the documentation to a detailed Word doc or an HTML archive.

This is a great, comprehensive list for people to sort through and find the application(s) that best fit their needs for their start-up.

    Cheers,

  • Terri Lusiana

Wow! What a comprehensive list, kudos!

I’ve been using some of the tools you have featured in the list, but I can say I did only know a few options for each category. May be if I get the chance to propose couple of tools which haven’t come under your radar, I would certainly place my votes for acivecollab (http://www.activecollab.com/) for project management and Curdbee (http://curdbee.com/) for online invoicing.

  • http://www.hrlocker.com John Dennehy

That’s a great list with almost everything an early stage company needs. We’ve developed a tool for managing HR that might make it into your list someday. Take a look at http://www.hrlocker.com if you have a moment spare. It’s in use in Europe and China but not the US yet.

That’s really a nice list. Just tweeted it a minute ago!
Perhaps you should add mite (http://mite.yo.lk) to time management and billomat (http://www.billomat.com) to invoicing – they’re both big in germany.
    And there’s a little misspelling: Colloboration -> Collaboration – just in case…

  • http://www.essential-business.co.uk Julie

I’d add Solve360 by Norada to the very comprehensive list of CRM/Project Management apps. Really nice interface and so fast to use (no clicking on ‘save’ buttons, just click outside the box and it’s saved automatically — hours of wasted clicking avoided!) Also offers integrated email which is not common but so useful if you are to have a comprehensive communication thread available in contact records. It also makes sense to me to integrate contact management with project management (at least for smaller businesses).

I’m not involved with their company at all but currently use their product. I also used their previous CRM product for years and they are a solid company, unlike some recent arrivals on the app scene who use us for beta testing and then slowly fade away!

    http://norada.com/

Another app worth a look is Glasscubes (http://www.glasscubes.com/secure-extranet/) and also Capsule CRM (http://capsulecrm.com); and for GTD-style task management Nirvana — it’s like Things, but prettier somehow (http://www.nirvanahq.com).

For Mac users’ task management, look at the wonderful, wonderful ‘The Hit List’: http://www.potionfactory.com/thehitlist/ — I still use it every day and *love* it, but the developer’s continuing silence worries me. I’d have to be dragged screaming from it, though — brilliant product.

  • http://realsuccessdynamics.com Jason Barone

I’m not sure if this was left out intentionally, but the ultimate app for startups has got to be Google Apps http://google.com/a

Also, I would argue that MailChimp is probably the best email marketing app available today.

    Thank you very much!

  • Chardz G

Let me add on the crm list this web crm I have been using http://www.worketc.com. I can attest how this tool helps me run my business smoothly. For a virtual assistant business like mine, Worketc put me on top of all the projects that my VAs are handling, and I am able to monitor how satisfied each client assigned to them. My invoice and billing are automated, too! And what’s more fantastic for me is that I am able to create tags on each of the contacts stored in the system, yes, unlimited tags –that way I can easily sort out contacts and search them using tags as kewyords.
