As much as I love using iPhoto to create photo slideshows of our family, I tend to like web or mobile apps that can do the same thing. It tends to be much easier to create a quick slideshow and share it with friends and family from them, without having to upload a large video. There are a handful of web and mobile apps that help you create video slideshows, ranging from the extremely full-featured to the quick and simple ones with few features to fuss with.
Evver, which is a web app that falls into the second category is one that I am going to be looking at today. They are brand new, so they are not as full featured as some of the other photo slideshow apps that are out there. But, that doesn’t mean that it can’t serve a purpose for people. Let’s take a look at it’s features and see what it can do.
Creating Your Slideshow
After you first sign up for Evver, they make it really easy for you to create your photo slideshow. The first thing you need to do is pick the music that you want to use. They have a decent amount of musicians and genres to choose from. The downside is that you have to use one of those songs and you can’t use your own.
After this you can now start to upload your pictures for your video. You can have at minimum 20 pictures and at max 50 for now. Once you upload your pics, you can rotate them and also move them around in the order that you want them to show in the video.
Once this is done, you are now ready to let Evver do its magic and it will create the slideshow for you using the music you chose along with the pictures you uploaded. Evver will email you when they are done, and depending on the amount of photos you have it doesn’t take too long for it to finish.
Viewing and Sharing
Once you get the email from Evver that your slideshow is done, you can click on the link they give you and view your video. You can also share it to Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. They do a pretty good job of putting together a slideshow for you and it takes you out of having to spend the time to do this yourself. You can literally go from pictures to a full video in a minute.
As I started to play around with Evver, the one thing that I noticed was that it was really lacking some features that I would have liked to have seen in the app. First of all, it would be nice to either have a bigger selection of music to choose from, or give the user the option to upload their own music. Secondly, it would have been nice to be able to have more editing features so that you could have the option to have more control over your slideshow. For example, if I wanted it to only be 2 mins long, then I would have liked to have that option.
Although I wasn’t the hugest fan of Evver, I always try to see some good in an app after I test it out. And I really do think there are some good things about Evver. I like the simplicity of it and how quick it was to create a video with your photos. I can see this being great for people that just want to throw together a quick slideshow and don’t really care much about music or other features. I can definitely see this working for those that are not as computer savvy, who still want to create a photo slideshow for friends and family. And even for the more savvy among us, sometimes you want something quick and simple that still looks great, and Evver is exactly that.
I don’t think Evver is dead in the water at this point, but they are going to have to step up their game if they are going to make a name for themselves in this space. I think they definitely need to at least give the user the ability to add their own music or add more to their collection of songs on the site to make this a viable app to get people interested. I also think that Evver needs to target the mobile market with their app if they want to increase their user group. People are using their smartphones more and more for photos and videos and giving them the ability to create their slideshow on it will make it even more appealing.
Evver is brand new and they are just starting out, and they’ve already nailed the features they do offer. But, if they seriously going to make a dent in this space, they are going to have to evolve and offer more than what they currently have. There are just too many other players in this area to not innovate further. We’ll be looking forward to seeing how Evver continues to evolve and hopefully become an even better way to turn photos into a video with your browser.
What do you guys think? Is there room for more in this space or have you settled on something and are not even looking at anything new that is coming out?
