With the ever-increasing rise in businesses operating via the web, there came a need for invoicing apps and yes, there are plenty. The trouble arises when you’re trying to find the right one for what you need. I’ve spent a good while searching for one that does exactly what I need and I may have just found it in the form of an app by UK-based startup, Haloweb.

In this article, I’m going to be taking a look at Invoice Bubble – an app I deem to be one of the best for performing this menial task with ease.

Overview

Invoice Bubble is an app that allows you to create beautiful invoices and after using it once, it soon becomes a painless task to produce attractive invoices that give an aura of professionalism. Whether you’re a freelancer or a big business, everyone who does this kind of work needs a reliable solution and Invoice Bubble is just that.

Pricing

Invoice Bubble is completely free to use for all purposes and contains all of the features you’d expect in the paid version. You can also upgrade to the paid version for $5/month so that all advertisements are removed but the free plan offers all of the same features. Although the invoices do look professional, there is always a small advertisement for Invoice Bubble at the bottom of any ones you send and sometimes, this can put clients off so for the small fee, you can remove this and retain your professionalism.

User-Interface

The user-interface of the app is well laid out and the clear colour scheme enables you to find exactly what you want with ease. The consistent grey and green colour scheme works well and doesn’t restrict any of the usability of the app meaning that more people can enjoy the great features it offers.

The main navigational menu allows you to access the main four sections of the website where you can manage Invoices, Estimates, Clients and Contacts. The simplicity of the navigation is quite good since a fair few apps tend to make it as hard as possible to navigate; this being one of the exceptions. Overall, the app is well designed and allows even the most inexperienced of users to use the app with ease.

Getting Started

It’s quick and easy to get started with using the app. Simply navigate to the registration page and you’ll be asked for your first name, your email and to choose a password. These are just the bare basics you need to log in and once you’ve spent about 10 seconds filling these out, you will have created an account.

You’ll be sent a nice little welcome email and you can then start using Invoice Bubble. When you access the app, you are taken to the Invoices page from which you can view a list of your latest invoices and navigate them easily with the highlighting of outstanding invoices. You can also customize these so that you can just view those which are outstanding or those that are paid. You will also be able to navigate to other parts of the app from here and pretty much ever other page.

Now, you’ve got an account and a basic idea of your way around the website, where next? It’s time to add clients.

Managing Clients

The first thing you’ll need to do before you create any invoices is to add some clients. These profiles simply contain some basic contact details for the client that will appear on the invoice when you create it. You can also add a single main contact that is the main association in terms of the client. It is also possible to sort the clients into groups so that it is easier to access those who together are linked in some way.

From the Clients management page, you can view a list of all of your existing clients and how many invoices you have sent – as well as those that are outstanding. This allows you to distinguish between the clients you may need to contact about payment and those who are up to date.

Creating Invoices

Once you’ve created your clients, you can then create invoices. To do this, simply navigate back to the Invoices page and once you’ve pressed the green “Add Invoice” button, a little form will appear. From here, you can choose basic details for the invoice such as the client the invoice is intended for, the reference number which is automatically generated, estimated payment requirement date and the status of the payment. You can choose to add more options if you wish to modify settings for that particular invoice such as the currency, any discounts and whether you want the invoice to be private.

You’re then taken to a preview of your invoice. This WYSIWYG-type editor allows you to add text and items inline and shows a live preview of what the finished thing will look like. Any section with faint text and a small pen icon denotes that you can edit this section and add your own text. This is mainly for the descriptions and the footers but it can come in useful if you need to add some necessary information such as an alternative payment type.

It’s also really simple to add items to the invoice. All you need to do is add a description for the item, the quantity or hours and then the cost. You can add multiple items for each invoice and the total and subtotals are automatically calculated and shown.

Once you’ve done this, you can either choose to save the invoice as a PDF file or send it to the client.

Updating Profile

If you’d like to make the invoices more personal, you can alter many types of personal details on the “My Account” page located at the top right of each page. From here, you can add your own contact details such as your address, phone number and company details, as well as a company logo that will be displayed at the top of every invoice you send.

You can also update regional settings on here like currency and the default language as well as modifying email notification settings and payment details.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I believe that Invoice Bubble is a great app that does exactly what it aims to do; create great and attractive invoices that can be managed in a really nice environment. It’s not one of those apps that claims to have hundreds of features but nevertheless, it doesn’t need to. Every part of the app is perfectly laid out and it’s one of the most usable and functional apps I’ve seen in a while.

The app is what I believe invoicing online should be like – easy and free. Not free in the monetary sense of the word – though this is also the case – but it allows you more freedom over the content of the invoices than any I have found so far. The whole experience for me using this app was positive and I will go as far as saying that this is the best invoicing app I’ve found so far.

Summary

Invoice Bubble lets you build web based invoices and send them to your clients with ease. Generate PDFs and get paid through PayPal. Ideal for freelance and small business.

  • Great app!! Very clear and simple. Thanks guys…

  • I’m always looking for ways to keep my client investment down by keeping my overhead down. I’ve been using billingboss but with the ability to do recurring invoices this looks a little better. I’m going to switch to it for a while.
