Project Management

For the longest time now, Evernote has been the go-to service if you want to conduct any research on the web. And why not, with the plethora of options that it offers. But personally, I’ve found that it lacks the simplicity to let me use the app to collaborate with others. Evernote is great for power users and I swear by it, but every time I’ve worked in a project group with others who aren’t that tech-savvy, it’s a stumbling block and we end up switching back to a long Gmail thread that’s messy and hard to keep a track of.

That was the main reason Annotary piqued my interest when I came across it. The simplicity it offers is unparalleled in other apps, be it Evernote, Scrible or anything else. And when I actually did work on an assignment with a tech-challenged friend using Annotary, he didn’t find it the least bit intimidating and is now using it as his default bookmarking service for all, irrespective of research projects.

There are countless project management apps out there in the cloud. They all range from being minimal to unnecessarily bloated. Picking the right one that suits your workflow is a painstaking process. A few days ago, I had the opportunity to pick a project management app for co-ordinating my online marketing efforts.

I was saddened by the high prices, lack of features and the usability of the stalwarts. Like every other over crowded market, new entrants have started to focus on niche verticals to get noticed. Online marketing is booming and has a workflow that’s changing at every turn. Swydo is a task management and easy reporting app for online marketers, professional digital agencies and online marketing departments.

Let’s see how it stacks up against the other front-runners in project management.

If you’re managing a team, it can get very hard to keep a track of vacation time. With the holidays coming up, you don’t want to be caught in a situation where all your employees are out of office at the same time, unless you’re really planned for it. If you happen to have many freelancers working for your company, it can be especially hard to figure out who’s going to be unavailable, when.

Timetastic is a fantastic little tool that helps you manage leaves for people in your organization, and is loaded with options that make it a must-have for anyone responsible for the smooth functionality of a team. It’s even got a nice design. Let’s take a look. (more…)

Taiichi Ohno is considered to be the man that made Toyota a supremely efficient organization, boosting it to worldwide success. Ohno’s secret was the Kanban (Japanese for signboard) project management system. Since then, the Kanban system has become extremely popular in organizational resources, and there are several Kanban-oriented web apps already out there.

LeanKit Kanban takes the system and infuses it with the benefits of the digital world, from analytics to team-sharing. If you often have trouble keeping a track of what projects need to be delivered, or which member of your team is up for a new assignment, this is what you need. (more…)

If you’ve been trying to find a way to get your team to collaborate in the cloud, you’ve likely found many apps that would fit part of what you need, but wouldn’t be your full solution. You’d have to make an internal site with one app, use another for project management, manage your contacts elsewhere, and more. Before you know it, the cloud made your life harder than anything.

What you really need is an app that brings everything together. One such app is Bitrix24, a cloud based social intranet that has enough features to cater to the needs of a small business organization. Let’s take a look, and see if it might be the cloud solution your team needs.

When you’re working on a project, from a huge project like building a house or starting a new business to a smaller job like making a new website, effective project management is the key to success, particularly if you are working with other people. Collaboration with other people has always been something of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s possible to share the load and draw on the talents of different team members, but the major downside is finding an effective means of communicating with your collaborators to convey ideas and give feedback on progress.

ThetaBoard is an online project management tool that can be used to help keep track of how you are progressing through the various tasks that need to be completed for the projects you are working on, exchange messages with the people you are working with, and assign tasks to your co-workers. Online project managers are hardly a unique category, but ThetaBoard has a unique twist that might make it the simple tool you need if you’ve found project management apps too difficult to use.

Are you a multitasker and are you currently a part of several groups? Are you frustrated by the countless amount of time and effort spent in reading group emails, Facebook group updates, phone calls, and text messages? Do you want a solution to ease your frustration and facilitate better group collaboration?

That was what the folks at Cornell University thought. So they sat down, dumped all their thoughts, time and technical expertise into a magic pot, said “abracadabra”, and out came Wiggio. Or so it seams. Wiggo is an easy to use, full-fledged web solution for group collaboration, one that just might be what you need to make your team collaboration really work without overwhelming everyone.

I’m a procrastinator. I often put things off to the point where I just forget what needs to be done. As a regular reviewer here at AppStorm, it’s no surprise that I’ve reviewed many task management apps, and you’d think that my solution lies there. However, I’ve really struggled to find one that works for me. Some of them are too bloated and crammed with features that I’m never going to use, some seem perfect until I go to use them and realise that the amount of JavaScript crammed into the interface makes it near-impossible to use.

One contender attempting to shake up the world of task management is TaskUp — a sophisticated app that ensures that task management becomes simple again. Read on to find out more! (more…)

Just under a year ago, we took a look at Podio, a social and online work network rolled into one and we liked it very much, so much so that we gave it a extremely well-deserved score of 9 out of 10. Since writing that review, the Podio team have been working extremely hard on the product and there are plenty of new features to show for their efforts.

Read on after the break to find out what exactly they are! (more…)
