Data Management

These days we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to online file storage/sharing solutions. There’s something to suit every user’s needs, from a photographer sharing an occasional image online (CloudApp) to the design studio sending across large files to their printing facility (YouSendIt), to the startup company road warrior who needs all his files in sync wherever he goes (Dropbox). It’s great that we have so many options but it’s also overwhelming at times.

Fluxiom aims to be the choice for professionals who need to store large files of a variety of types, be able to find and organize them easily, and quickly share them. It also allows users to receive files securely and makes sure they’re all in order. Is it right for you? Let’s take a peek and find out.

We live in a very interesting world now, with the advent of browser and cloud based applications. We can talk to people anywhere in the world and share just about anything we want: where we are, what we’re buying, what movies we watch, what books we’re reading, etc. I’ve been looking for a good way to share books for a while (and even started developing my own WordPress plugin for it), and think I found a pretty nice solution in Readernaut.

Whether you’re writing a simple app to try out a new language or coding the next Facebook, sometimes you’re going to want to share a bit of your code. Maybe you’ll want to show your coworker what a certain function does, or make a suggestion about SEO to your copywriter. Or perhaps you’re stuck on a problem, and need to point out exactly what’s wrong and where you’re stuck.

Full code review tools are an overkill for this, while sharing the code on its own can make it difficult to add your commentary to it. That’s where Chop comes in. Keep reading to see how Chop can help you share info about code and collaborate with less friction.

There’s millions of things each of us need to keep up with, but usually we actually only end up keeping up with the very most important things we’re supposed to remember. Sure, we usually remember the most important phone numbers, passwords, and ID numbers, but beyond that, it can be very difficult to remember everything.

Evernote bills itself as a digital extension for your brain. You can store all of your notes, images, and more in it, then quickly search and find anything you need. You’ll never have to forget anything, ever again. While Evernote is widely popular on smartphones, it has recently been updated with a beautiful web app that makes your important info accessible from anywhere. Keep reading to see the great features that have been added to one of the world’s most popular note apps.

As a web developer, a common request I get is, “I want my website to be number 1 on Google.” While this is an admirable goal, it’s a difficult one to attain for a few reasons- the competition you face for your particular keywords is a major one. An even bigger reason, however, is the ever changing landscape of search engine ranking algorithms, as well as the ever changing landscape of the Internet. Search Engine Optimization and Marketing is a full time job and there are lots of companies dedicated to it. Luckily, SEscout is a tool that aims to make the job of a Search Engine Optimizor, or really, any website owner, a lot easier.

Content Management Systems (CMS) are a dime a dozen. Not only are there many of them available online but they come in all sizes and shapes too. From a flat file CMS (one that doesn’t require a database) to those that run on enterprise grade database systems, there’s always a CMS available for everyone.

Picking the right CMS from so many options, which are equally good, isn’t an easy task. From the cost of deployment to addons and ease of use, a lot of criteria have to be checked out. Recently I came across Pulse CMS and gave it a try — take a look.

We’re linving in the information age, but without a personal IBM Watson to help us through life, sometimes it can be hard to keep track of everything. From the specs of the latest smartphones to refrigerators that will work best in your new apartment, there’s info about so many things that it can get overwhelming. Theoretically, more data means you can make a better decision; sometimes, though, it’s just too hard to process all the info.

There’s several ways of dealing with this. Keeping stacks of sales papers and encyclopedias around isn’t too convenient, and you’ll definately not be able to remember everything. One great way to figure out the best things or compare data about different items is to turn your data into a chart. Let’s take a look at SocialCompare, a new beta webapp that’s designed to help you compare everything from trees to tripods to trip ideas and then share your curated info with the world.

As freelancers, many of us need to create invoices on a regular basis. Invoicing is about as fun as doing your taxes, except for one nice exception: invoices are all about you getting paid, not you paying someone else. Still, there should be a way to make invoicing easier and cheaper. It’s never fun to have to pay just so others can pay you for your work!

Invoice Dude is an invoicing web app that has two major advantages over most competing invoicing apps: it’s free to use online and is also available for purchase as a self-hosted web app to run on your own servers. So, whether you’re looking for a free way to quickly create invoices online or want to purchase an invoicing app that you can run just as you want, Invoice Dude is a great option for both needs. Let’s dive in and see what more it has to offer.
