CanvasDropr: The Web Collaboration App For Creatives

Ever since my team has started move its work to the web, I’ve been looking for more ways to use the web to make our team more productive. One of the things I’ve wanted to do is use the web as a better collaboration tool. In my line of work, better collaboration equals more productive.

There are a variety of web apps out there that let you collaborate around different projects, but the one I am reviewing today has lots of potential to become a good one. It is called CanvasDropr, and in its basic sense, it is a place on the web where you can collaborate on many different things. Let me show you around the app itself.

I remember as a teenager the first time I tried to make myself a mix tape, and how cool it was. Then I started making them for my mom and girls that I had crushes on, only to realize that it wasn’t really impressing the ladies. Boy, were those some good memories.

Yes, making mix tapes are a thing of the past, but you can relive that past with a web app called Mixtaping.fm. It’s a great way to take the concept of tape mixing into the digital age. Who knows, it could even score you some points with the ladies this time around. If nothing else, the nostalgia factor is definitely worth trying out the app.

With the advancement of technology, it is a wonder that fax machines are still around. Although I don’t rely on faxes as much as I used to, I still find myself needing to use one at least once a month or so. There is no way I’d go out and spend the money to buy a dedicated fax machine, plus add another phone line to my bill.

For a while, I was using a cheap fax service online, or I would take advantage of the fact that we had a fax machine at my work office. But then I came across HelloFax and everything that I had done before seemed to feel old and useless. In fact when I was corresponding with my editor on this review, we both had the same thought:

Say hello to the new fax machine of 2012

One of the things that is a catch twenty-two with me is the fact that I love to find shortcuts and an easier way to do something. Although it does come in handy, there are times, when it comes back to bite me. But, you have to admit, when it comes to your workflow, if there is a way to cut down on time, we are all for it. I know my time is precious, and I want to maximize it the best that I can.

That is why when an app like Wappwolf comes around, I get pretty excited. Wappwolf has a suite of apps that connect to certain cloud services where you can create automations to help with your workflow. I have been using it for the past week or so and I have definitely loved the different ways that I can use it to help me in my every day life.

Finances and dealing with money has been something that I have always enjoyed doing, not for work, but in general. I am always looking for better ways to save money and now with our first child, even more so, do we have to money conscious.

That is why I got really excited when I came across SmartyPig. It is a web application that helps you with your savings goals and gives you the opportunity to create and save for them. Sounds simple, but there is much more to it than just that, so let me show you around the app.

Any time you watch the news, you will find that most of the time, the main topics are related somehow to money. It has been around for centuries, but yet we still can’t seem to figure it out. Money can be a great thing, but yet so destructive as well.

One web app has come out recently that piqued my interest because it looked like it paid attention to the details when it comes to money. Budgetable, which is currently in beta, takes looking at your spending differently than some other apps that do similar functions, like Mint. Instead of just looking at your transactions and categories of spending, you get a more in depth look at your money and how it is affecting your savings.

Although I love writing for the AppStorm network, I do have another full time job as a teacher. One of the biggest things that I have learned over my 7 years as a teacher is to be organized and to always plan ahead. Not only do you want to plan ahead, but you want to plan with purpose. You need to have short term and long range goals for your students, and having a master plan is a great way to do this.

That is where a web app like Planboard can come in very handy. It is a great way to stay organized and help you as a teacher to plan for the week, month or for the year. It also gives you an easy way to share your plans with others. Let me show you what I am talking about.

Lately, I have really started to get into listening to podcasts, especially tech and productivity ones. They are great for my long commutes to and from work, and a good break from the constant negativity that is out there on talk radio.

I also find that I am also listening to my podcasts at home as well and soon realized that it was starting to take up a lot of space on my iPhone. That is when I stumbled upon a web app called Flapcast. The easiest way to sum it up is that it is basically cloud storage for your podcasts. Let me show you what I am talking about.

Most of you that read Web.AppStorm read it because you love all of the cool apps that are being used on the internet. The internet is full of great information and great things to read. I am always looking for the next best thing on the web or reading great articles from other tech blogs that are out there.

Sometimes as we are searching the net, we can get overwhelmed with the information and saving it for later reading. There are some great services out there that help you save articles for later, but a new web app called Save & Search takes a little different approach. It takes all the things that you search for today and makes them searchable and easy to find when you need the articles later. Let me show you what I am talking about.

“A picture is worth a thousand words”, or so the saying goes. It really does turn out to seem true much of the time. A picture can often tell the story of something without any words being said. The problem is, those “thousand words” are in the eyes of the beholder and not necessarily the words that the picture taker meant for the actual photo.

What you need is a way to put your voice behind your pictures, and Story Wheel is a unique web app designed just for that. It can give the photographer so they can really tell the unique story behind the picture. It’s an intriguing concept that could just be the next best way to share your pictures rather than just putting them in a photo gallery.
